10 slices

white or whole wheat bread

10 slices

* American cheese slices

Method

Spread tuna salad on 10 slices of bread. Place one slice of cheese on each.

**Place the tuna melt on a baking sheet. Place the baking sheet in a 400°F (204°C) oven for 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and the tuna salad is hot. Hold at or above 135°F (57°C) until service.

Alternative methods:
The tuna salad can be warmed on a griddle before placing it on the bread. Once the cheese is placed on the sandwich, the sandwich is placed under the broiler or salamander to melt the cheese.

A tuna melt is sometimes prepared using two slices of bread instead of serving it open-faced. Such a tuna melt is sautéed or griddled.
